Sun-dried Tomato and Feta Dip is perfect for tailgating at home with your favorite sports team or weekend entertaining this fall. Pair this dip with my favorite chip of homemade Za’atar Chips!

Well it’s September, so that means only one thing. Nope not the changing of the beautiful weather or pumpkin spicing of all the things.
Football is back.
I mean, I guess it’s great if you’re a big fan. For me though? I’d rather just eat the food and ignore what’s going on in the background. Now I know I can’t be the only one out there with a complete disinterest in this sport. I blame it all on the forced games I had to attend back in high school thanks to marching band. It’s hard to truly appreciate a game when you are forced into the ugly uniform that is a marching band outfit.
I digress though, we aren’t talking about marching band or really football for that matter. The truth is, Sunday afternoons at home or rather tailgating on your home turf is all about the food.
In my opinion the best part of tailgating food has got to be the dips. I just can’t stay away from them, and I felt like this was the perfect opportunity to through some of my favorite Mediterranean flavors into an irresistible and brightly colored dip. Briny feta, intense tomato flavor and just a touch of tang from some greek yogurt to smooth everything out. It’s perfectly accompanied by a glass of wine.
Oh yes, that’s right, wine does belong that the tailgating table and Gallo Family Vineyards has planned ahead right with you with their awesome mini wine bottles! Instead of bringing a pack of beer to share with your friends, bring a 4-pack of these guys to the party! Perfectly portioned for one serving – so three other folks can have one too – with 9 varietals, there is a wine for everyone.
Plus I say, do away with the glass and just put a straw in your mini-bottle. It gets a little girly with my White Zinfandel here but I don’t mind one bit!
Ingredients
- 8oz feta cheese (I prefer Bulgarian feta)
- 1 cup oil packed sun-dried tomatoes, drained
- 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt
- juice from 1 lemon
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
- 1 teaspoon za'atar seasoning
- 1 package white or whole wheat pita bread
- olive oil
- za'atar seasoning
Instructions
- Place the feta, sun-dried tomatoes, greek yogurt, lemon juice, parsley and za'atar in your food processor. Process until completely smooth. You may need to stop at some point to scrape down the sides.
- Scoop into a bowl and drizzle a small amount of olive oil on top before serving.
- Best if served at room temperature
- Heat your oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut your pita bread into triangles and brush the top with olive oil. Season generously with za'atar and place on an even layer on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 7-9 minutes or until the chips are lightly browned and crisp.
- Let cool before serving with the dip.
Since dips are only one part of tailgating eats, Gallo has a great pairing suggestion to go with any barbecuing you might be doing and don’t forget to check out their handy dandy store locator! Make sure you don’t leave the house with your $1 off digital coupon though!

I love all the mediterranean flavors going on here. I have to try this. And from one band geek to another, I love the food and wine more than the game also! 🙂
Adding Za’atar to my shopping list. I have got to try it. I’ve heard so many good things about how great it tastes.

Mmm that looks fabulous! Love the tomato + feta combination, that is one of my favorites. I would totally dig into that dip. 🙂
Every good tailgating spread needs lots of dips! Yours looks amazing!!! And I LOVE how you added a straw to the wine – that’s my kind of wine drinking 🙂

I could just dig into this bowl of dip with a spoon!
Yum! Everything sounds perfect! I love the homemade chips and well I am all over the dip! Love it!
It’s time to break out the jar of zaatar I’ve never opened! What a terrific dip and chip combo!
P.S. Your cookies are amazing! And I can’t wait to try the vanilla salt. You’re the BEST!!!
I have to have this. When I order cookies (which I will be doing soon!), can you sneak in a little sample of this too?? 😉
You went to the wrong high school – we had beautiful powder blue uniforms with matching powder blue shakos (that was back about a hundred years ago, but I still remember them fondly).
The dip sounds great, and the chips… What can I say? Pita smeared with olive oil and sprinkled za’atar and then toasted is one of my all-time favorite things to eat. I think I might have to make this!
I did go to the wrong high school! Although my school was more about the football team than the marching band. Our colors were royal blue and gold with that horrid gold stripe across the shirt, a gold plume on the hat and a matching dickey!
Sun dried tomatoes are so delicious. This dip sounds wonderful!
Sounds good!
First – I am SO with you. I really don’t care about the games…I just want the food! Second – this dip sounds ridiculously good, and I need it in my life immediately. That’s all! 😉

WOW I think if I made this dip I would hog it all to myself!
I have no desire to watch football, but lots of desire to eat all of these chips! I’m kind of za’atar obsessed lately.
