Can someone please tell me where the first week of December has gone? In this week alone, I’ve attended one holiday party, baked up a batch of cupcakes and over 300 hundred cookies (I’ll get to that tale later this month). The holiday season is in full swing and if you aren’t prepared for it yet, you are in luck today!
#SundaySupper along with our new friends at Gourmet Garden have an amazing lineup of easy holiday entertaining recipes. They all utilize Gourmet Garden’s array of fresh herbs that you can find in the refrigerated section of your grocer near the fresh herbs. If you aren’t familiar with the product, they are fantastic and a real time saver. How many times do you purchase herbs for a recipe just for them to die in your refrigerator? With Gourmet Garden Herbs and Spices, they are already chopped and ready to go and stay fresh for up to 3 months. It’s a one to one ratio with fresh herbs and two to one with dried but no more waste!
One dish that spells holiday to me is herb crusted lamb. A quick trip to your butcher (or in my case Trader Joe’s), you can pick up a frenched rack of lamb to be covered in a garlic, herb and breadcrumb crust and baked in the oven. Let the lamb cool slightly to be slice into “lollipops” for your guests to enjoy throughout the evening. It’s a great one handed appetizer to enjoy while balancing a glass of wine in your other hand.
A quick note on the cooking time of the lamb - as you can see from my pictures I like my lamb quite raw, in fact it might have been baaing at me. Please adjust the cooking time up for your preferred internal temperature, I do recommend checking with a meat thermometer prior to cutting the lamb into lollipops.
Ingredients
- 1 - 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 pound frenched rack of lamb
- kosher salt and pepper
- 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Gourmet Garden Basil
- 1 tablespoon Gourmet Garden Oregano
- 1 tablespoon Gourmet Garden Parsley
- 1 tablespoon Gourmet Garden Garlic
- 1 teaspoon Gourmet Garden Chili Pepper
- 1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup low-fat Greek Yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
- juice from 1 lemon
- 1 teaspoon Gourmet Garden Basil
- 1 teaspoon Gourmet Garden Oregano
- 1 teaspoon Gourmet Garden Garlic
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Heat your oven to 400 degrees F.
- Pat the lamb dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- In a cast iron skillet over medium heat with 2 tablespoons of olive oil sear the lamb on all sides until brown (about 3-4 minutes per side).
- Remove from the heat and brush with dijon mustard.
- In a small bowl, mix together the herbs, garlic, breadcrumbs and olive oil to form a crust.
- Press the garlic and herb crust on the meaty side of the lamb, pressing down hard so it stays on the lamb.
- Place back on the cast iron skillet, crust side up and transfer to the heated oven to roast for 15-20 minutes (check the internal temperature after 15 minutes 145 degree for rare, 160 for medium). Cook until the temperature meets your desired preference.
- While the lamb is cooking, in a small bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon zest, juice, basil, oregano, garlic and salt.
- Remove and let sit for 5 minutes before slicing between each rib bone with a sharp knife to create the lollipop.
- Serve immediately with the yogurt dipping sauce.

Best grown-up lollipops I’ve seen in a while. Yours are cooked so perfectly too. These would be a real treat for any holiday celebration.
What a fantastic idea for a beautiful holiday meal. We usually have Crown Pork Roast but we may have to give this recipe a go.

We love lamb in this household and these look great! And I’m impressed that rack of lambs are available at Trader Joe’s. I must take a closer look at their meat section the next time I am there!
Yes! I was surprised to find them at Trader Joe’s too, my guess is that the frenched rack of lambs are hanging around for the holidays (and they are really affordable). Stock up!

Beautiful. Also, I want mine baaing too.
Thanks Jen! Baaing (and mooing) is really the only acceptable way to eat red meat.
I adore lamb done this way and such a great treat for the holidays!!!
Susan, this crusted lamb looks perfect. I’ll take a pop for each hand. Pinned.
What beautiful little lamb chops! The look so moist and I love that crust you put on there!
These chops look so moist and flavorful! Very elegant for a party!
My herbs ALWAYS die. It’s a big problem. Are these tubes expensive? I tend to opt for fresh (even though I end up not using it all) because it’ll be a difference of 99 cents to 4 dollars for stuff like that.
I honestly can’t remember what they cost. I see them in the store all the time but never paid attention to the price. I have noticed them on sale and if you go to their website they are offering a coupon, so it’ll be a good chance to give them a try!
Love the idea of a lamb lollipop!! AWesome!
ahhhh so jealous of the gourmet garden herbs!
This lamb looks SO flavorful and like it would be such a perfectly impressive thing to serve when entertaining!
I love lamb and these garlic herb lamb pops looks incredible! I’m scared to try making lamb myself but i may need to try these!
Lamb is just like cooking steak and as long as you have your meat thermometer nearby you are good to go. Then there is no chance of over cooking it!

I have never had lamb, but this looks delicious and makes for such an impressive main dish!
I have been absolutely CRAVING lamb lately, and you’ve cooked it just the way I like to eat it. I don’t mind at all if it baas at me! haha.
I love the herbed crust on your lamb chops.Such pretty colors and flavors and that dipping sauce sounds fantastic!I have to try them sooner than later 🙂
Oh my word. I knew when I saw the recipe in the forum that this was going to be amazing, but I didn’t realize how amazing! This looks FABULOUS! And love the lollipop name.
Perfect party food; easy to prepare but deceptively elaborate looking. Thanks for the recipe!
