Air Fryer Curly Fries with Bacon Chive Dip from The Girl In The Little Red Kitchen

Despite having one very big thing in common, I never really thought my current freelance job and work with my blog would every really cross paths.

Sure, I develop recipes for both.  Also yes, I style food and shoot the photographs too.  Beyond those {admittedly} large things in common, both jobs occupy separate areas in my brain.

Over here is my space to have fun, be creative, cook with the foods in season and (I sure hope) make food that you love as much as I do!  Over there, I’m creating recipe books to go into products that any cook with any level of experience can use.

I should have figured these worlds would collide and in fact, today they have!

A couple of weeks ago my friends at Idaho Potatoes asked if I happened to have an air fryer. Do I? Oh you bet I do, I have 3!!!

What is an air fryer? An air fryer is a countertop, kitchen appliance that cooks your food by circling hot air continuously around it.  Think of it as a miniature convection of oven but one that “fries” your food with little to no oil.

I’ve complained plenty of times how much I hate frying  – I’m pretty sure most of you agree with me here.  Deep frying at home leaves your house smelling like oil for days and a greasy mess everywhere.   Using an air fryer takes all that mess and smell out of the equation and leaves you with crispy, non-greasy and just as delicious fries with the bonus of being good for you too!

Now comes the question, but I don’t have an air fryer, let alone 3 of them how do I make this happen?! Luckily for you Gourmia – the company I’ve been working for is offering one of their air fryers to you today! Just keep reading below to find out how to enter the giveaway!

Now that we’ve got the cooking part down, how do you make them curly?

Easy! Break out your trusty sprializer to do the trick (so many gadgets but trust me the air fryer and spiralizer are worth taking up precious space).   In a matter of minutes you have curly shoestring potatoes ready to go!  A quick toss in just a tiny bit of olive oil and into the air fryer they go and you have crispy fries without the hassle.

Let’s not forget the dip either! Put aside that ketchup and go for this tangy bacon chive yogurt dip instead.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium Idaho Russet Burbank Potatoes, scrubbed clean
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt + extra for seasoning
  • 3/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 3 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Remove the ends of the potatoes with a sharp knife and with one potato at a time attach to a spiralizer with the chipping, thick or “B” blade in place. Spiralize each potato into thick curly strands.
  2. Place the potato strands into a large mixing bowl and toss with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of kosher salt.
  3. Place the potatoes in the air fryer basket (if needed, separate into two batches) and set the temperature to 392 degrees F. Set the timer to 15 minutes and begin cooking.
  4. Once finished the fries should be crispy and light browned on the edges put pale in the center. If the fries are not finished cooking after 15 minutes, give the basket a shake and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the fries from the basket and season to taste with kosher salt while still hot.
  6. If cooking the potatoes in batches, keep the cooked fries warm on a baking sheet in a 200 degree heated oven.
  7. While the potatoes are cooking, prepare the dip: In a small bowl mix together the Greek yogurt, bacon, chives, lemon juice and olive oil. Taste and season with kosher salt and black pepper. The dip can be made up to a day before serving.
  8. Serve the curly fries hot with the dip on the side.

WOW!!! I have a deep fryer but everyone always tells me it smells up the house when I use it. We all LOVE fried food but because of that smell I don’t hardly ever make any (which probably isn’t a bad thing for us all). But this air fryer is awesome!! I would be making lots of things that I know my family misses like fried fish, fried pork chops, jalepeno poppers and egg rolls!! Thanks for the recipe and for the giveaway!!

I’d love to try just about all my garden vegetables in the air fryer and of course these curly fries!
