I’m very lucky, for the most part Sir Pugsley is a laid back, chill dude. All he cares about is making sure he is fed, finding a comfortable sleeping position (generally on me) and getting his twice daily walks. Even those, I’m pretty sure he’d do without, the guy is lazy with a capital L.
However that lazy guy will go from sound asleep from instant psycho depending on the situation.
Situation 1: You take out his favorite food. That can be anything from some carrots, to an apple and especially a banana. Yes our dog eats healthy foods. He also go nuts for bacon, it’s about a balanced diet but we don’t give in much to those bacon needs.
Situation 2: Cleaning his face. He’s got short hair, so we don’t have to take him to the groomer often but that cutie pie face over there needs to be cleaned. He hates it. A lot. There’s squirming, stress shedding and one of us holding him down while the other cleans. It’s manageable and if we work quickly it’s over soon enough. Then he gets his treats.
Situation 3: Taking him out of the house to be groomed. This dog has a sixth sense. He just knows he’s about to go out for a regular walk and when the outing is something “special”. So last week we ventured out for a nail clipping, he knew something was up. As soon as we turned left instead of right out of my building, the barks, yelps and twisty turns started. We walked into the vets office and low and behold sat another pug! This little guy was nice and calm and already making us look bad, Sir Pugsley was frantic (but in a good way, so far). He wanted to run, sniff and figure out why he was there. The vet technician swooped in quickly and brought my frantic pug in for his appointment and this is basically where all hell broke lose.
What’s going on? You want to trim my nails? Have you seen the exorcist? That’s my dog for a simple nail clipping. There were paws to my neck, dog hair all over me and eventually a second technician was brought in. Did I mention the whining, yelping and barking because he was trapped in the room?
99% of the time, sweetest dog in the world. 1% king of crazytown.
It’s a good thing he’s so darn cute! Plus he has a birthday this week, my little man is not so little anymore! So like every year, he gets a special new treat baked up just for him.
As I mentioned, we feed him mostly fruits and vegetables as his treats and I recently gave in to buying him a pack of Greenies. The only reason is because we had a pet store gift card to use up, plus his breath is horrible! The thing is, there are so many ingredients in those Greenies and they don’t actually smell all that great. I’m not entirely convinced they freshen his breath.
So while there are still some of the store bought treats lurking around, I figured I can do better. Especially when I can recognize all the ingredients going into these treats. I guarantee your pup will love it and you!
p.s. Wondering why there are no photos him actually eating these? It’s because he gobbles them so quickly. No patience from this dog!
