How does a little cocktail to kick off the Fourth of July long weekend sound?
No complaints on your end?
I didn’t think so, since you’ll want something refreshing to sip on while you lounge by the pool or BBQ all weekend long.
Now while we aren’t throwing a red, white and blue drink out at you there is something old school about daiquiris and I always feel like the 4th is one of the holidays that retains some sort of nostalgia. Friends and families get together, they go to the beach, they grill, they watch fireworks. Not much has changed over the years, oh except we instagram about our weekend instead of retaining memories in our mind.
I always loved Fourth of July. We’d have a big BBQ, friends or cousins would get together and as a teenager I’d be running around in the late evenings with my friends at the beach.
There’s nothing like sitting at the beach at night. The cool breeze, the ocean smell. I admit if I miss anything from living on Long Island it’s the late night summer beach trips.
These days this holiday has a more special meaning since that’s the day I met Braden and we are celebrating 10 – TEN years together tomorrow. Geez where has the time gone. I’m starting to feel old! It has been 10 amazing years though and the next 10 will be just as amazing.
I’d say I’d be raising this drink tomorrow to celebrate but in our true anniversary fashion we’d be raising some Brooklyn Beers to say cheers and remember again the day we met at the brewery.
You though, have this one for me. 🙂
Ingredients
- 2oz fresh peach puree
- 1 1/2oz white rum
- 1oz lime juice
- 1/2oz simple syrup (1:1 ratio sugar/water)
- 4 fresh blackberries
- 1 basil leaf, cut into chiffonade
- ice
Instructions
- Place the blackberries, basil and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker and muddle until the blackberries start to breakup.
- Add in the peach puree, rum and lime juice and shake.
- Pour into a collins glass or mason jar filled with ice.
- Garnish with lime wedge and additional blackberries.
- Makes 1 cocktail.
Notes
I originally created this recipe for Michael Green and it appeared on his website in August 2013

After the work week I’ve had, I need this daiquiri! When can I come over? 🙂
Oh my word. Everything that is in there is something I love madly. Peach? Blackberry? Basil Sign. me. up.
Awwww, happy 19 year anniversary to you and Braden! Isn’t it amazing how quickly time flies? I just celebrated 13 years with the Hubs (from the time we started dating. Damn we were so young once). I hope you guys have a fabulous 4th of July celebration and that there’s lots of this delicious daiquiri to keep you hydrated!

There are a lot of great drink recipes popping up here and there and everywhere. This is another one to add to that ‘great’ category.
