It’s October! Do you know what that means? Halloween candy is out in full force in all the stores just begging you to buy giant bags of your favorite candy bars in miniature forms. Not to mention candy corn and Reese’s pumpkins. It might just be the best time of year for a chocoholic.
Speaking of chocolate, this is my first #chocolateparty – a fabulous group created by Roxana’s Home Baking. Our theme for October? Yup, you guessed it chocolate and candy!
I’m not saying you HAVE to wait until after Halloween to make this bark. By all means, go and buy up all the good stuff now to make for any celebrations you have coming up. However if you feel like looting your kids stash or hoarding some of the candy you give out just to make this, I wouldn’t fault you. After all as a kid I totally swapped out the candy I didn’t like when I went trick or treating for whatever my parents were handing out. 😉
The best thing about this bark is that you can use whatever you have on hand! Since the topping is a mix of really sweet candy bars, I do suggest a good high quality dark chocolate to balance everything out.
Chocolate bark is incredibly easy to put together - when choosing the chocolate as your base, make sure you use bars and not chocolate chips as they contain stabilizers that will effect the end product.
Ingredients
- 12oz dark chocolate bars - about 72% cacao such as Ghiradelli Intense Dark
- 2 cups miniature candy bars, roughly chopped
- 1/2 cup pumpkin spice Hershey Kisses, chopped
- 1 cup pretzel M&M's
- 1/2 cup candy corn or autumn mix, chopped
Instructions
- Line a half sheet baking sheet with parchment paper (about 10X10 inches)
- In a double boiler melt the chocolate bars until smooth and pour the chocolate in the center of the parchment paper.
- With a spatula, spread the chocolate out into a even layer to the edges of the parchment paper.
- Top with the assorted candy selection and set aside to cool and set for a few hours. If it happens to be a humid day, you can speed up the setting process by placing the bark in your freezer for 15 minutes.
- Remove and break into pieces.
- Store in an airtight container and keep in your fridge if it is warm or humid
Would you like to join in the chocolate party fun this month? All you have to do is follow these simple steps:
1.) Blog about your chocolate treat. Your recipe must include the two ingredients we choose . For October it would be chocolate and candy.
2.) Include a link back to the Chocolate party page. Optionally, add the Chocolate Party logo in your blog post or on your sidebar.
3.) Your recipe must be published during the current month (October 7th through October 31st). Please do not link old recipes, they will be deleted.
Your candy bark looks like fun and it’s easy to make it at home. thanks i ll give it a go. =)
What an amazing candy bark! I love how versatile this can be…but your combination of add ins is perfect!
Fun bars and gorgeous presentation. I am so sharing these!!!
We don’t get many trick or treaters in our building so I don’t really have an excuse to buy all that candy. I really, really need an excuse! 🙂
Every year, I get overly excited about trick-or-treaters, and I buy too much candy and then we get like, 4. In other words, there is always a glut of candy leftover- so this would be the perfect way to use it all up!
What a fun idea! I love how you could change this up so many different ways!
I’ve clicked on the photo to your post in the Linky Link and I feel like I’ve entered Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory: Cheery colors and comforting chocolates at every turn =)
Brilliant advice about using a luscious dark Ghirardelli to counterbalance the sweeter chocolates.
My 7 year old is going to LOVE this. I sure hope he does not recognize all the candy bars that Mommy ‘borrows’!!
That looks so colorful and fun, and you used real chocolate. Yum!
I love this recipe!
It is so bright and colourful! I know my daughter would love to make this with me.
Yum yum yum, chocolate AND candy! You know the way to a girl’s heart!

CANDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
What a great way to use extra halloween candy (or a great excuse to go and buy some!) Thank you for sharing this with us!
No comment on how much on sale Halloween candy I’ve bought and eaten so far this month. But…some of it should definitely be turned into this bark. So I can get it ALL in one bite!
Your candy bark looks so vibrant and fun, Susan. I love that you used a really good quality dark chocolate so that it’s not all one dimensional sweetness.
Your bark looks super yummy! I am buying extra candy for Halloween just to have leftovers. Love the pumpkin towel too.
