Whenever I visit a new city there is one thing on my foodie bucket list – I must try as much street food as possible. From the little cart on the corner, to the most popular food truck in the city, I want it all! Michelin rated restaurants may provide a meal that you will never forget, but street food is the soul of a city.
Standing at a cart waiting for your snack you may find out hidden places to go from the proprietor or even where to get something just as delicious from a friendly face on line.
#SundaySupper is celebrating the deliciousness that is Global Street Food today! Living in NYC, I have quite the variety of street food at my feet. At every corner different cultures are represented – from dumplings, to Korean tacos, to Belgian Waffles, authentic Mexican tortas and tacos, and of course intensely seasoned and fragrant street meat you can smell a block away!
Braden and I love eating our way through a new city, so of course street food is the way to go. Not to mention it’s cheap and I like supporting someone at their craft and doing what they love. We’ve enjoyed crepes in Paris and in Metz, France which is in the Alsace region. Let me tell you, nothing warms you up on a cold January day in France like a hot crepe filled with Nutella made fresh on the street. It was just what we needed after walking around for days on end and just perfect to share with you today.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup water
- 4 large eggs
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- additional melted butter for the crepe pan
- Nutella ( try homemade nutella )
- optional: sliced bananas, strawberries or raspberries
Instructions
- In a blender place the flour, milk, water, eggs, salt and melted butter.
- Pulse about 10-12 times until the batter is completely combined. Alternatively whisk everything together well in a medium bowl.
- Place the batter in the refrigerator to sit for at least 2 hours - can be made up to a day ahead of time.
- Using a crepe pan or cast iron skillet heat on medium until it just begins to smoke when you brush a little bit of melted butter on the pan (if it smokes a lot lower the heat).
- Pour about 1/3 cup batter (this is for a 10 inch pan) on the skillet and swirl it around to create an even thin pancake.
- Cook for 2 minutes and with a thing spatula, carefully flip over (I found that folding the crepe in half, flipping, then unfolding to finish cooking was the best way to keep the crepes from tearing).
- Cook the crepe for an additional minute and transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Continue to cook the remaining crepes. These can also be made ahead of time, and frozen for about a month if wrapped tightly in plastic and a ziploc.
- To fill the crepes, if they are still warm, spread a thin layer of nutella over the crepe, leaving a 1/2 border and roll up.
- If the crepes have chilled, heat up in the skillet for 30-45 seconds and then spread the nutella.
- If using fruit, place on top of the nutella before rolling or serve on top.
- Serve immediately while still warm.
- Makes about 10, 10 inch crepes.

On our last night in France last summer, I practically forced my kids to try Nutella and sugar crepes. I knew that if they didn’t like them, they wouldn’t go to waste 🙂 Now I’m hungry for them again!

I love, love, love Nutella crepes!! I have such fond memories of eating these in Paris, too. One time we were staying in the St. Germain district and there was a crepe stand literally across the street from the hotel. So, breakfast was coffee and egg crepes, lunch and dinner were out on our wanderings, and there was ALWAYS, I mean every day we were there, either an after snack crepe or late-night treat of Nutella crepes. They were so delicious…
Love Nutella crepes and my kids love it for their weekend breakfast :)Street foods are the best 🙂
I’ll eat crepes any way I can get them!
I love Nutella Crepes. It is the perfect dessert after a Ratatouille Crepes.
Lovely post ; thank you for sharing 🙂
These remind me of being in Paris and getting crepes from a little outdoor stand and watching him make them, I was mesmerized. Such a great memory. Thanks for bringing it back. Your crepes look gorgeous!!
I rarely eat crepes other than nutella crepes. YUM. I just can’t pass them up!
Those would be gone in about 2.5 seconds here. I love both crepes and Nutella.
Ohhh nutella crepes. I am not one for a sweet tooth but LOVE Nutella crepes! Thank you for posting!
The smell of street meat in New York really is intoxicating but I’ll happily take these for dessert! 🙂
These are gorgeous crepes, Susan. The only time I’ve ever made them, I mangled every single one, lol. The only thing I want to eat with crepes is Nutella – it’s the perfect combination! I really need to come to NYC and eat my way through the city. You can be my tour guide! It’ll be glorious gluttony.
Here’s a confession, my first two times attempting crepes, they were a horrible mess. It took me using my heavy duty Le Creuset skillet to get them working right. Cast iron baby!! Nice hot pan and I had great crepes! p.s. I want you come visit so badly, we will eat so much we will barely be able to walk!
Want to hear something embarrassing? I’ve never tried Nutella. It’s ridiculous. I have no idea why. I REALLY need to pick some up when I go to the store this week. And then make crepes this weekend 🙂
Oh, you totally need to fix this not having nutella before! But I’m telling you, it’s an addiction once you get started. 🙂
I DID buy some Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter yesterday. I don’t know if I can handle having two addictive sweet spreads on hand at the same time! haha.
These look awesome!! 🙂

So… the first time I had Nutella crepes was in the Paris hotel in Las Vegas. That counts right? Sure. One day I’ll have them in actual Paris, France. Until then, I’ll use your inspiration to tackle crepes at home too.
Oh yes! Crepes are my go-to treat when I want to be transported back to Paris. And nutella filling is crucial! (I like to add bananas too 🙂 ) Yours look beautiful!
Crepes are the best. I tried to have one every day in Paris when I was studying abroad. Years later now I wish I had gone for two a day!
