The first rule of brunch here in NY is to start with a cocktail, your basics would be a mimosa or bloody mary. If you are lucky you might find sangria or a specialty brunch cocktail on the menu, it’s all about hair of the dog correct?
I figured the best way to kick off my #brunchweek contributions was to provide you with a cocktail. Mother’s day is fast approaching on Sunday and if your mom is like mine, they love rose, excuse me I mean white zinfandel. This sangria promises to be the perfect compromise between your moms favorite white zin and the crisp, dry rose that you like to enjoy on a warm summer’s eve.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup brandy
- 1/3 cup finely chopped strawberries
- 1 tablespoon white granulated sugar
- 1 750ml bottle dry Rose wine, chilled
- 1 1/2 cups sliced strawberries
- 1 lime, thinly sliced
- ice for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together the 1/4 cup brandy, 1/3 cup strawberries and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes and mash together with a wooden spoon.
- Pour the macerated brandy berry mixture into a pitcher with the sliced strawberries and lime.
- Add the bottle of rose and stir.
- Serve immediately with ice or let sit for a few ours in the refrigerator prior to serving.

1. Gorgeous drinks! My mom is a white zin FIEND and she’d love this!
2. Love all the recipes from everyone! I wish I had time to do a brunch type roundup on my blog…
3. How do you guys get involved in this kind of thing? Does the organizer seek you out or vice versa? I’d love to do one of these collaborations someday!
First thank you! My mom loves white zin too! She always had a bottle ready at hand in the fridge for a when she had a difficult day at work. Christine reached out to some people she knew and the rest she sent an open invite to members of the Food Bloggers Network group on Facebook. Do you belong to that one? You should definitely join, wonderful group of bloggers and the discussions are fabulous!
This looks like such a refreshing drink. Thanks for sharing this!

This is a beautiful Sangria, Susan…and I luv me some brunch. I think I’ll have to make a batch this week! Would have loved to have known about this event (earlier)!
Beautiful photos (and drinks)! I love adding berries to my sangria, and using a white wine or rose wine for a lighter berry sangria. The strawberry/lime combination sounds so tart and divine.
