This holiday season look no further than your own kitchen for a thoughtful and heartwarming gift. Pumpkin Beer Bread in a gift basket is the perfect present for your friend or relative who loves to bake and drink pumpkin ale!
Do you have that one person in your life who is absolutely impossible to shop for? They are the one who always goes, “no I don’t really need/want anything” “Really you don’t have to get me a gift this year.” Then they go and get you the perfect gift and you feel guilty because a) you actually listened and didn’t buy them something or b) picked out the most generic item possible and it’ll never match the perfectly thought out gift they got for you.
This year you are going to avoid those gift grievances by packing up something no one can buy at a store. Gifts from the kitchen are not only personal but they taste great too!
Quicks breads are incredibly versatile and easy to make, which means they make the perfect gift from the beginning baker to the most advanced on your list.
Only a few components are needed to put the basket together and it can be done before your own loaf comes out of the oven.
Step 1: Purchase a loaf pan and a tea towel or cloth napkin to place your ingredients in. You can find inexpensive but good quality pans at your local restaurant supply store.
Step 2: Measure out your dry ingredients and pour them into a cellophane or food safe plastic bag. Use a pretty ribbon to tie it all together.
Step 3: Finish the basket off with 2 bottles of beer, 1 for the recipe and 1 for them to enjoy while baking the bread, a can of pumpkin puree and a copy of the recipe which will include the wet ingredients they need to provide and cooking directions.
In fact to make your life easier, I’ve made a little downloadable printable recipe card of this recipe for you to include in your gift basket! Just click here to print – although you may want to size it down a tad smaller!
So why pumpkin beer bread? Well, pumpkin season doesn’t specifically have to last only in October and November plus the warm spices in the bread and beer still give you that holiday feeling without the need to peppermint all the things!
Even if you don’t love pumpkin, this recipe is for you. I actually consider this pumpkin “light” as the added puree is to help enhance the flavor of the beer.
Can’t find pumpkin beer anymore? Take out the puree and swap it for a Christmas Ale!
Ingredients
- 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions
- Heat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9X5 loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the pumpkin puree, beer and melted butter.
- Stir until well combined.
- Pour the batter in your prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick insert in the center comes out clean and the top is crisp and cracked.
