Here are a few of my favorite things about being a food blogger – cooking and thinking up different recipes to bring to you, meeting new people that I would have never connected with before and coming home to big boxes full of items such as what you see pictured above.
When you work the 9-5 (err 10-6 in my case), you aren’t home when those packages arrive. So after a long day, sometimes even longer when those days involve a workout even after 2 and half years it’s still fun to come home to package and tear it open.
This time around it was a bottle (or 3) of Captain Morgan Rum and an awesome stainless steel bar set to get working on some recipes and cocktails for their Captain’s Table Challenge with Chef Hugh Acheson.
Over the next 3 months, I’ll be creating some fun rum infused recipes and new cocktails for your enjoyment. The first batch will appear this week for last minute Thanksgiving ideas, the next in December for holiday parties and then of course Superbowl in late January. I’ll be joined by 14 other bloggers and Hugh himself will be selecting a winner out of this lovely group for each of these three occasions. At the end, one person will be awarded an overall winner and have the opportunity attend a Captain’s Table event in the spring with the chef himself.
Sounds like fun doesn’t it? I think so. I love spiced and dark rums, and this is a challenge I can’t wait to dig into.
Do you want to join the fun? You can by submitting your recipe through social media using the #CaptainsTable hashtag, through now until the beginning of February. For every recipe submitted through the hashtag $1 will be donated to WhyHunger.
Let the rum games (responsibly) begin and may the odds be ever in your favor!Disclaimer: I was provide with 3 bottles of Captain Morgan Rum, plus a small stipend to cover the cost of ingredients.
