The New Southwest #CookbookSpotlight

This post is part of The New Southwest Cookbook Spotlight sponsored by Hippocrene and hosted at girlichef.

I’m a little sad today, our three week cookbook spotlight of Meagan Micozzi’s The New Southwest is coming to an end. What a wonderful journey this has been and a fabulous introduction into Southwestern cuisine for me.   I just barely touched the beginning of this world, but I’m so excited to continue to explore it more through Meagan’s book.

Chorizo and Cumin Roasted Fingerling Potato Breakfast Tostadas

From the front cover through the last pages, The New Southwest is full of bright, colorful photographs and personal touches from Meagan.  You are instantly taken away to her world and it’s easy to imagine cooking in an Arizona kitchen.

This book does an amazing job of taking dishes that you are familiar with and taking that Southwest turn on it.  It’s the perfect introduction to new flavors, spices and ingredients but still remaining in comfortable territory.   Adobo Potato Gratin sounds like an amazing way to spice up your holiday table, not to mention Peanut Butter and Jelly Empanadas to make for the kids at home.

Citrus & Herb Red Snapper, Chile-Rubbed Pork Chops and Pomegranate & Lime Chicken Thighs are all going on my “to make next” list for simple but extremely flavorful weeknight dinners.

Mushroom and Leek Migas Mushroom and Leek Migas

I especially love the chapter on the Southwestern Pantry, it’s the perfect introduction to this book.  Whether you are familiar with the ingredients listed or not, Meagan explains why they are used in the cuisine.  It’s a fantastic reference and one that’s dogeared and ready to go back to at a moments notice.

Have I wet your appetite enough yet?  Would you like a copy of the book for yourself? I think you do, so it’s a good thing I have a copy waiting and ready to giveaway!
