CSA Week 11

This week is extra special on the CSA recap front, not only do you get to see what my full share looks like but I’ve finally taken photos of our setup for pick up.

Our share partners are on vacation this week, so we get to enjoy the full share this week, of course that really means I’m enjoying the full share by myself, since as I mentioned earlier DH has left for Seattle for a week.  Let me tell you, it is a mighty haul too, good thing I’m having a bunch of friends over for brunch this Saturday to help me get through it all.

As to why it’s taken me so long to post pictures of our pick up site – I just haven’t picked up myself in quite some time.  It’s either been our share partners or my husband.  I figured since I was actually picking everything up last night, I better take a couple of photos.

I mentioned here and here how two other NYC CSAs run, this is how the Ditmas Park CSA works.

When you first get to the pick up site, you check in with one of the scheduled volunteers for the day (each member is required to work a 2 hour shift).  After checking in, if you receive eggs, fruit, chicken or a jarred item it is handed to you and the rest is self serve.

The volunteers box up any of the items that need to be weighed and are ready for you to take – for those that are curious, you can pick the box of weighed items that is to your liking.

After you get your weighed items they have the help yourself produce written on a board.

Everything is laid out and you can be in and out in a few minutes, but I usually chat with whomever is volunteering.

We are lucky and the watermelons are part of the vegetable share
