When I think of eating in Montreal, the first thing that pops into my head is Poutine.
If Montreal was to have a national food, I would think Poutine would be it.
For those unfamiliar with Poutine, it is a dish of french fries, fresh cheese curds and gravy. For some places, that is just a starting point and they have many different variations of Poutine.
We certainly had our fill during our stay, trying five different types (the first being the fois gras poutine) each one very different from the other.
We stopped off at Resto de La Banquise at a friends recommendation and while I haven’t tried all the Poutine in Montreal, I think they serve the best.

On our last day, we stumbled into a restaurant called Montreal Poutine to try a few more varieties. I still hadn’t had smoked meat, but was thrilled to see they had smoked meat poutine.
