Kitchen Renovation – Day 2: Flooring

During the contractor search, we had made a few trips over to Ikea and Home Depot to look at supplies.  As much as I would have loved a custom kitchen, we didn’t have the money for it and this isn’t the apartment to design it in.

Our kitchen is only 50 square feet, plus it’s a starter apartment – we probably will only spend a few more years here before upgrading.

After searching, I finally picked an Ikea kitchen.  Yes, it was generic, but it was going to work for us.

However, after speaking with our contractor I had learned he had never worked with Ikea kitchens before and I started to get a little nervous.  I didn’t want to order cabinets that didn’t fit or worse ones that you had to put together piece by piece.

He finally convinced me to visit his supplier out in Flushing, Queens and it was the best decision we made.

The cabinets were exactly what we wanted, they had their own quarry for counter tops (and the kind we wanted too).  Plus in the end, we purchased the sink, faucet and flooring from them too.  It sure makes life easier to buy everything from one place, instead of running to Home Depot and Ikea and scheduling deliveries and installation.

Day 2 they installed the floors.  No more ugly laminate flooring that looked dirty even after I mopped. They also finished all electrical work – goodbye extension cords, now we have outlets around the kitchen; and started priming the walls for a new shade of red to match my Le Creuset pots and pans.

Also, sorry about the photo, for some reason it won’t come up the correct way, but you get the idea of what it’s suppose to look like.
