I don’t know about you but I find it incredibly convenient that margarita day happens to fall out on the night of the Oscars.  I mean, I love the movies and the pretty dresses and all but we need something to help us through that 3 hour + award show.

In all honesty I feel for the attendees because they are the ones stuck in an amphitheater having to listen to all the speeches, the fun and boring ones.  At least I can wander off and do something productive once the winner is announced (sorry Best Visual Effects Editor but I’m just not interested in your speech).

Although truthfully at the end of the long week – and what a long week it has been, all I really want to do is kick my heels up and enjoy a refreshing cocktail.

Typically when you’re going to fix that margarita you want three things, tequila, triple sec or cointreau and lime juice but who says you always have to use tequila?

I’ve had margaritas made with other spirits before and they are downright delicious, which is why I was really excited to try one out with VEEV.

VEEV was created as a better alternative to vodka using winter wheat from Idaho, Rocky Mountain Water and Acai from Brazil.  It’s all-natural, made in small-batches, smooth tasting and downright delicious.

You know how sometimes when you enjoy a margarita you get that heartburn feeling? What I love about VEEV is there’s no after effect of it, the spirit really is that smooth tasting.  The smell is faintly of citrus notes which is why I thought it would be perfect match for grapefruit.   The regular salted rim though is replaced with a mild kick of chili powder and lime. Go ahead and use whatever you have at home but for more heat chiptole chili powder is the way to go or ancho for some smokiness.

These look so light and refreshing, and I’m really intrigued by making margaritas with other types of spirits. The timing is actually perfect – I just had a sip of a margarita made with bourbon on Friday. I know it sounds strange, but it was really good!

To be honest I had to search too but winefinder.com did the trick for me, maybe you can find the store that carries it on there?
