Hello, my name is Susan and I’m a chocoholic. If a day goes by without a little taste of chocolate the cravings start to set in. I don’t need much, but just a little taste. I’ll take chocolate in practically anyway, bar form, cheap Halloween candy, a decadent dessert, ice cream, hot chocolate, or a simple but oh so satisfying brownie. The one way I could always pass it up was in my cocktail. It’s probably because most of those chocolate infused drinks are overly sweet and creamy and not really my style. So when Divine Chocolate contacted me to sample a few of their bars and asked if I’d be interested in creating a cocktail for the holiday season I was sold.
As I mentioned above one of my favorite ways to eat chocolate is in bar form, my husband and I love to go to our local organic/natural market and seek out new and interesting chocolate bars that they have stocked. The darker the chocolate the better in my opinion, a little goes a long way and I love the subtle spice and fruity notes that go along with the bitterness.
So when a Dark Chocolate Hazelnut and Cranberry bar was tucked along in my samples from Divine Chocolate, I knew that was going to make it into my cocktail. It was time to say goodbye to those overly sweet drinks and go for something a little fruity, a little spicy and a little tart. The perfect compliment to the bar.

I incorporated the chocolate in two parts in this cocktail. The first is in the simple syrup, by mixing a small amount of cocoa powder along with the sugar and water and the second is coating the martini glass with the melted chocolate bar.
Ingredients
- 4oz 100% pure cranberry juice (such as R.W. Knudsen)
- 2oz Black Spiced Rum
- 2oz cocoa simple syrup (recipe to follow)
- 1/2oz cointreau
- 3-4 drops orange bitters
- 1oz (about 1/4 of the bar) Divine Chocolate Dark Chocolate Hazelnut and Cranberry Bar, melted
- 1/4 cup cane sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon Divine Chocolate cocoa powder
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat whisk together the cane sugar, water and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute or until the sugar has completely dissolved. Let cool slightly.
- In a cocktail shaker, add the cranberry juice, spiced rum, simple syrup, and cointreau. Shake well.
- Drop 3-4 dashes of bitters on the inside of your martini glass.
- Using a teaspoon drizzle the chocolate in the inside of your martini glass so that it dribbles down the sides and to the bottom.
- Pour your cocktail in your martini glass and drizzle any remaining chocolate on top. Serve immediately.

I’m officially a Divine Chocolate ADDICT thanks to my beer/chocolate series!! Somehow this bar seems to have escaped my belly though. I know I’d love it in cocktail form!
Wow. Great looking martini! I would love any drink with chocolate and cream both…
I look a great chocolate martini with a hint of raspberry. Yummy
White Chocolate martinis
I’ve never heard of a chocolate cocktail. But I looked it up and I think my favorite would be a Kahlua Twist, if that counts. I love kahlua… Anyway, this martini sounds fantastic!
Chocolate martini (sorry the exact recipe eludes me at the moment, but involves Godiva dark chocolate liquor.)
I really like Mudslides.
Ok, it’s official – we are twins separated at birth. I’m the exact same when it comes to chocolate. I eat it at least three times a day but I’m not a fan of it in alcoholic drinks. This stunning drink I would happily gulp down! What an incredible mix of flavours. I think I should drink this from now until the end of the holidays, lol. It’s so wonderfully festive!
I don’t drink alcohol, but I am a big fan of hot chocolate.
That makes two of us!
Marcela Valladolid’s chocolate margarita!!
Oooo I always love a chocolate covered pretzel martini or shot with a little chocolate and sugar on the rim! So good. I have become a chocoholic over the last month, thank to all the leftover KitKats from Halloween. I seriously eat one a day or more.
I love Godiva Chocolate Liqueur with some cream and vanilla extract.

Chocolate martini for sure.
I love a chocolate martini! Spiked hot chocolate is lovely, too.
I like mudslides
I’ve never had one before, but I’d probably like chocolate and mint or chocolate and raspberry.
My favorite alcoholic drink with chocolate is a strawberry daiquiri with swirls of chocolate and a chocolate covered strawberry on the rim of the glass. It’s festive for the holidays, but also delicious any time of the year.
