By now, you’ve probably realized there are a few things that I just ‘don’t do’ here at the Girl In The Little Red Kitchen. One of them most notably being all things spicy. I may be perpetuating stereotypes here, but this Jewish girl just can’t handle the heat. If anything requires a hot pepper in my kitchen, the non-latex gloves come out to remove all the capsaicin and even then the smallest amount possible is used. The rest goes into a bowl for my husband to add at his desire. He can handle the heat.
So when Amy from Kimchi Mom announce that this weeks #SundaySupper theme was going to “Spice Things Up!”, I was suddenly dumfounded on what to do.
Then I remembered something, I kind of sort of tolerate sriracha aka rooster sauce aka sweet chili sauce that everyone is OBSESSED WITH. We always have a bottle at home because Braden loves it. Pizza? Needs sriracha. Leftover Chinese food? Gotta have sriracha. Day old Thanksgiving dinner? Well, you get the point.
I had recently and unknowingly enjoyed some sriracha mayo while out at a local restaurant. Well, hey not so bad when you tone this down and NOW I know why everyone loves it! With my bottle in hand, I was ready to spice something up and what better to spice up than popcorn?
Forget your movie theater fake-butter drenched popcorn. This is what you want to sneak in next time. You first get the vinegar tang of the sriracha, then the heat and then the pure enjoyment of popcorn. What’s not to like?
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels or 1 bag popped unflavored popcorn
- 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Pop the popcorn with an air popper or on your stovetop in a large pot (directions found here ).
- In a small bowl, mix together the sriracha sauce, melted butter and salt.
- In a large bowl, place half the popcorn and drizzle with half the sriracha mixture. Toss to combined.
- Top with the remaining popcorn and sauce. Toss again until the popcorn is completely covered with sriracha sauce.
- Serve immediately.

Such a creative idea!!
It’s good that you are enjoying spicy a bit more! Everyone is different and this popcorn looks fantastic. I know my husband doesn’t really love spicy hotness as well but he actually likes the flavours of some hot stuff just as long as it it toned down a bit because eh can’t handle the heat.
*Everything* is better with sriracha! Tator tots? Better with sriracha. Scrambled eggs? Better with sriracha. And now popcorn? Must be better with sriracha!
Eee! I thought I was the only one to do this! I do it on regular corn too 🙂

LOVE Sriracha! This popcorn sounds yummy!
FANTASTIC IDEA!!!! I love to munch on popcorn, and love the idea of adding sriracha to the butter. I’m definitely doing this next time I make popcorn!!
Why haven’t I tried this before?! Now that I have a fresh batch of homemade sriracha sauce, I will try this delectable snack!
And yes, I’ve learned that you really don’t like spicy foods, but am sooo glad you were able participate this week! 🙂
Hmm. I also suffer from the ‘Jewish girl doesn’t like things spicy’ problem but I haven’t tried sriracha. Maybe I need to. 🙂
Oh I bet I would love this. I make paprika popcorn all the time, a movie just isn’t the same without it. I need to plan another movie night because this sounds amazing.

If there ever was a popcorn for me it would be this. Butter and sriracha = one heck of a fabulous combo.
And to think I’ve only been using chilli powder! Siracha is such a better idea.
This is actually one of my hubby and daughter’s favorite night time snacks! Hooray for sriraacha!
