Do you like to cook Asian food at home? I do, and I have a stocked pantry full of ingredients to make any dish I’m craving in an instant.
If you haven’t tried cooking it yourself yet, today’s #SundaySupper theme is here to guide you along. Twenty contributors this week received a copy of the new Steamy Kitchen cookbook Healthy Asian Favorites by Jaden Hair. There are some fabulous recipes in this book, Sake Steamed Mussels, Salmon Honey Teriyaki, and Korean Beef Bites.
Have I wet your appetite? Good, because I have a chance below for you to win a copy of Jaden’s cookbook today!
What Jaden does in this book is take a cuisine that can scare a lot of home cooks and makes it approachable. These meals are simple, and fast enough to put together on a weeknight. Plus, if you are going to invest in the Asian ingredients, you might as well continue to cook it on a regular basis?
Trust me on this, once you cook your favorite take-out dish at home, you will never go back to ordering it again. Sometimes restaurants do things better, but I’ve always found with Asian food, it tastes so good at home!
If you don't have Sake on hand, or can't find it near you, I found substituting it with white wine works just as well.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons shiro miso (white miso)
- 2 tablespoons sake
- 2 tablespoons mirin (or 1 tablespoon honey mixed with 1 tablespoon water)
- 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
- 4 pieces black cod (about 6 ounces each)
Instructions
- Combine the miso, sake, mirin, and sugar in a resealable bag. Mix well.
- Add the fish fillets to the bag, seal the bag, removing as much air as possible. Massage the bag a bit, spreading the marinade all over the fillet. Refrigerate for 2 hours or up to 2 days.
- Heat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove the fish from the marinade and use a paper towel to gently wip off any excess marinade, but don't rinse the fish. Discard marinade.
- Place the fish in the prepared baking sheet and bake until the fish flakes easily, about 10 to 12 minutes. Move the fish to the top rack and place 6 inches from heating element.
- Turn oven to broil to brown and caramelize the fish, about 1 minute. Keep a close eye on it as it will burn easily.
- Serve immediately.
