Kitchen Renovation – The Before

As I mentioned here and here, my kitchen is getting a face lift – actually, it’s getting a complete makeover.

When we bought our apartment two years ago, I wasn’t thrilled with the layout of the kitchen, but the price was too good to let the place go.  Plus at that time, it didn’t look *that bad*.

Fast forward a year – and the first cabinet door falls off on my head.  My dear husband (oh yeah, also now referred to as DH) tried to reattach but the wood was so stripped there was no way to screw it back in.  Then the second cabinet door fell off.

It was hopeless.

Let’s also talk about my wall oven that looked big from the outside, but was tiny on the inside.  I needed to buy all new baking sheets, the beautiful all-clad roasting pan that I had received as a wedding gift and had yet to be used was returned because it didn’t fit. The oven also ran hot (it heated from the bottom, so everything on the bottom rack burned) and I couldn’t leave the kitchen if the broiler was on.

And then there was the lack of counter space.  The corner was useless, so it just held the dish rack, Kitchenaid Mixer and spice rack.  My only available space was a tiny island that was purchased at Target.

Not an ideal kitchen for someone who likes to cook – a lot.

So I now present to you the before photos of my little red kitchen.  In the following posts, I’ll discuss the road to the renovations.

Yes, I have a pug dish towel, I also have a matching oven mitt.  Don’t judge me – I love my dog.

Usually there is a microwave here – we had already moved it at this point.

Cabinets all cleared out.
